Dogs are some of the most beloved creatures on the planet. The fact that they were bred to be man's best friend is part of why we love them so much. Humans have a connection with dogs that can't be ignored. That doesn't mean that dogs are always treated with love and respect.
Thousands of dogs are abandoned every year. Often a family will take on a dog, ignorant to the responsibility. Then they are forced to give it away. It can be very hard to find a good home for a dog in that situation. Even though shelters try their best to help the situation, there are more dogs than homes.
Luckily many dogs do get saved by families with good hearts. It is always amazing to hear about one of these stories, even if the story is rooted in tragic beginnings. This story may have a tragic start, but it has a happy ending. This is the story of La-Z-Boy Gatson, an adorable little pup who found a home.

A Happy Pup with a New Home
After hearing about La-Z-Boy Gatson's story on TODAY, Dave Trammell and his girlfriend, Sommer Guy, traveled 15 hours to adopt the poor little pup. Dave Trammell remarked, "Something about the way he looked just touched me. He just looked so cute and sad." La-Z-Boy Gatson first had to be sent to treatment for ringworm and other maladies by the Brookhaven Animal Shelter. After he was all healthy and checked out, he was ready to be adopted by Trammell and Guy.
Now La-Z-Boy Gatson is happy in his new home. "He's been through a lot, but I would say by day three or four, he was sleeping belly up right next to me - just settled in as ever. I think he just wanted to have a home. You could tell he was really appreciative when we got here."

Trammell and Guy have another rescue dog, Penelope. That is La-Z-Boy Gatson's new sister. It didn't take long for them to become best friends. They enjoy playing with each other. "We've taken them to the dog park. We've taken them out for ice cream and we've taken them around town," said Trammell.
Trammell is lucky enough to work from hom, so he is able to keep his dogs company throughout the day. As it turns out, La-Z-Boy Gatson loves his new families sofa as well. He sits on it all day. "He's got the demeanor of a 10-year-old. He's very, very mellow - a very good boy." The dog is up to 45 pounds now, and he has such an appetite that he runs to the sound of a bag of chips.
