15 Photos of Famous Celebrities Before and After Addiction

The story of their addiction and fear actually inspires.

I can't say I'm an expert on this topic - I haven't had a cigarette ever. I'm a big enthusiast in healthy living and don't even eat fast food, to be honest. Give me a good oatmeal with some Whey protein and a banana and I'm all set for the day. Anyway, my girlfriend quit smoking the first month we met. I was an influence in this, but so were the following 15 celebrities who also quit smoking (or drinking) and got their lives back on track. Though to be honest, they didn't just get their lives back, but their beauty as well - drinking and smoking is simply nasty on the skin.
Angelina Jolie
We all know Angelina from many movies, such as Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Alexander, Mr. and Ms. Smith and others. Her life was not easy during her childhood, that's why she began to drink early on.
Britney Spears
Who would forget that super sexy blond singer? Unfortunately, many fans were disappointed after she shaved her head completely bald while she was having a big smile on her face. Her consumption of drugs and alcohol could have motivated her weird behavior.
Drew Barrymore
Drew is one of Charlie's Angels, a movie that also stars Cameron Diaz. Drew had a dark period in her life when she was addicted to alcohol. Luckily, her rehab was successful and now she is a happy mother of two children.
Robert Downey Jr.
We know Downey Jr. from Iron Man, but he had a long and hard road to get to that role - which may have influenced his alcohol addiction. He also spent 16 months in prison, which may have deteriorated things further.
Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston went cold turkey and quit smoking back in 2012. She didn't have many problems quitting, apart from the usual weight gain that some smokers get. She told reports that some people asked her if she was pregnant, because of the rapid weight gain.
Elton John
We remember John as the guy with funny and weird glasses in many different shapes. John was a really lucky man after he smiled at the face of death and escaped her wrath in 1975 when he almost died of an overdose.
Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck smoked for a long time. By some reports, the first time he tried quitting, he was already smoking for over 20 years. He doesn't need a doctor to tell him the amount of damage this has done to his health (and his lungs).
Gisele Bundchen
This one is a mystery. She used to regularly smoke Parliaments brand cigarettes, but she hasn't been photographed smoking since the mid-2000s. That's a great success for her, as most smokers relapse after a few years, so quitting cold turkey isn't as easy as it seems.
Ewan McGregor
Ewan McGregor is British, and this explains his choice of quitting. In the UK, instead of regularly quitting smoking by going cold turkey or just smoking less, they use actual hypnosis. This was popularized by a local celebrity called Paul McKenna.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron has a similar timeline in her quitting as Jennifer Aniston. She quit around 2011 and told reporters the following, "I was highly addicted. I thought, 'I don't smoke like normal people. I smoke to die." Good thing she quit!
Kelly Osbourne
Kelly, like the rest of the Ozzy Osbourne family, looks like she had everything she ever wanted - but this time in a bad way. She inherited her self-destructive habits from her father which is what probably lead to her future addiction problems.
Eminem is the God of rap, as he says. Unfortunately, in the past, he was just an ordinary mortal, especially at the time when he was addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs. Luckily, now he is a perfect father and successful singer.
Sometimes is good to learn from your own mistakes, but the best option is to learn from others - I mean, why take the risk yourself? In Adele's case, she steered away from drug use, after a family friend died from a heroin overdose. Now, she enjoys parenting and growing her music career.
Kristin Davis
The star of the hit TV Show "Sex and The City," also had a dark period in her life. This happened when she turned 25. What saved her the most in her dark period was her family and friends, who were always there for her.
Break-ups and divorce are hard for anybody. Sting is also one of these people - he had difficult divorce when his first wife left him along with his two children. Luckily, that period is long over and Sting is now a wonderful father to six children.
