It's in our nature to be terrified of death, and being unaware of which moments might be our last is perhaps the most terrifying part. These morbid photos showcase some of the most popular pieces of photography ever taken of various media figures right before their deaths. While most are ordinary photos, the context of knowing that these were some of the final photos that would ever be taken of each of the people on this list is nothing short of haunting.
Whitney Houston
Iconic singer, actress, producer and model, Whitney Houston, was found dead in the guest room at the hotel where she was staying in Beverly Hills. Cocaine and heart issues were reported to play a role in the singer's tragically early death. This photo was taken when she was leaving the pre-Grammy Awards party and she would later be found deceased in her bathtub.
Michael Jackson
One of the most iconic musicians of all time, Michael Jackson, was pronounced dead on June the 25th in 2009. He stopped breathing in his sleep, reportedly due in large part to a combination of medications he was prescribed. At the time of his death, he was the most popular musician in the world. This one of the last known pictures of him, and shows him performing right until the very end.
The 35th president of the United States, John F. Kennedy was assassinated in one of the darkest days of US history on November the 22nd in 1963. This morbid captures JFK moments before his assassination, and is often considered one of the most infamous photos of all time.
The Notorious B.I.G.
The Notorious B.I.G. was one of the most influential players in hip hop. To this day, the affect Biggie Smalls had on the world, and his ability to influence what would then become the current generation of popular rappers is impossible to deny. A to-this-day unidentified person shot The Notorious B.I.G., ultimately killing him. This photo was taken on the 9th of March 1997, the same day he died.
Paul Walker
Fast and Furious mega-star, Paul Walker, is seen here leaving a charity event for the Reach Out Worldwide foundation. This photo of Paul Walker leaving the event would go on to be one of the last living photos of him, as he died in a tragic accident later that day on November 30th in 2013.
John Lennon
The Beatles was, without a doubt, one of the most influential musical ensembles of all time. John Lennon, legendary for being one of the band's most prominent figureheads, was murdered on December 8th, 1980, by Mark David Chapman outside of his New York City home. This photo shows Lennon and the man who killed him, who is standing to his left.
Adolf Hitler
This photo shows one of the most hated figures of all time, Adolf Hitler--Infamous for the leading the Nazi Party and promoting the atrocities that were committed in World War 2. This was one of the last known photos of him, and his exact cause of death is still a subject of debate.
Diana, Princess of Wales
The death of Princess Diana would live on as one of the most publicized deaths of our time. This photo was taken by a photographer briefly before the car she was in crashed, ultimately killing her. The subject of if her death was an accident or the result of unsafe driving was commonly debated the time.
Jane Wicker
During the Vectren Dayton Air Show, Jane Wicker, one of the show's most famous performers, was involved in a fatal crash that ended in an explosion that killed bother her and the pilot, Charlie Schwenker in June of 2013.
Ryan Dunn
A series of photos posted by TMZ show former 'Jackass' star, Ryan Dunn on what would become his last night out. Seen here, this haunting image shows Ryan Dunn having a good time only a short amount of time before his death on the 20th of June in 2011.
Bob Marley
Bob Marley died of cancer on the 11th of May in 1981. This photo is the last known photo of him, and serves as the last living memory of the music legend and rasta-icon, prior to his death.
Pavel Kashin
Pavel Kashin was a parkour freerunner who made headlines after a tragic accident caused him to die from a 16-story fall. The freerunner had some previous media attention due to his undeniable talent, but unfortunately fell while performing a stunt. This photo was taken moments before the stunt went wrong.
Steve Jobs
Innovative genius Steve Jobs changed the way the world would go on to think about technology. The former Apple CEO was praised for his ability to think outside the box, and produce great products. This photo is one of the last known photos of him, as he died on the 5th of October 2011 after battling pancreatic cancer for some time.
Tupac Shakur
Rap legend Tupac Shakur can be seen here, sitting in a car only a few hours before his untimely death on September 13th, 1996. Tupac was the victim of a drive-by, and despite many theories that have been posted as to who might have killed him, Tupac's murderer was never officially caught or identified.
The Falling Man
The Falling Man is an incredibly famous photograph that shows an unidentified man falling to his death from one of the towers involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The photo serves as a reminder of the horrible tragedy that occurred that day, and serves to represent all of the lives that were lost.
